Skeleton in the Cupboard
Skeleton
in the Cupboard
In our class text book, “Exercise Your English” there
is an extract from “Midnight for Charlie Bone” by Jenny Nimmo. In the extract
Charlie, the principle character explores a dangerous and crumbling building
called the Da Vinci tower with his two classmates, Billy and Olivia. The
extract ends on a cliff-hanger as Olivia falls off the spiralling staircase and
into the darkness below.
The pupils in 6th class were tasked to write
a concluding paragraph. This is the intriguing paragraph that Sam Daly wrote.
“We’d better go and see if she’s okay!”, said
Charlie. “Yeah..” replied Billy, looking
down nervously at the spiralling staircase.
As they started to climb down there was suddenly light below them. “Dammit!”, Charlie grunted, “Someone’s opened
the door!”. One hooded figure stepped
into the tower, judging by the figure it was a woman. They stopped moving;
knowing that if the woman went up or down at least Olivia would be caught. Charlie had turned off his torch when the
woman came in, leaving Billy and him in darkness except for the small amount of
light coming from the entrance. The
woman carried a lantern and started heading downwards, following the
moaning. The boys followed her, keeping
a minimum of thirty steps between them and not making a sound. When the woman finally reached the source of
the moaning she pulled something small and rectangular out of her robes. The boys realised it was a mobile phone. She dialled a number and spoke into it with
an accent that Charlie didn’t recognise.
“I have a girl down here with a broken leg, arm and collarbone, what
will I do?” she rasped. The boys were
too far away to hear the reply but she nodded and said back to the phone “See
you in five!”. The boys stared to climb
back up to the entrance and mercifully they weren’t seen exiting. They decided to hang around for ten minutes
to see what was going to happen. Two
burly men passed and went right into the tower and around five minutes later
they emerged with Olivia being carried between them. She saw the two boys and mouthed “Don’t worry!”
When Olivia returned to school she got detention for half a year and extra
homework for a week. She was in a wheelchair for a couple of days before she
could walk with crutches. But the adventure did not end there…

The Boneyard
Don't come to the bloody boneyard!
Some scary things you will see!
Spooky things are lurking there,
I'm sure you will agree!
With a scary skull, freaky fibula!
And a spooky spine!
You better run away from the boneyard
Before you run out of time!
Terrifying tibia, ferrous femurs and
shivering shoulder blades,
Rattling ribs petrifying pelvis will come out of the
graves!
These are the parts of the
skeleton,
That are very very scary!
If you see one walking out at night
You best be very wary!

The Bloody Boneyard
If you're creeping through the boneyard, in the middle of the night
You might want to be careful or you could get a fright!
You might see a skulking skeleton, he's really hard to miss,
His skull down to his fibula, he's walking through the mist.
First is his creepy cranium, and his shivering shoulder blades .
His sternum's really scary, his ribs are rattling like a cage,
His spooky spine, his radius, his petrifying pelvis
He's coming closer, now I think his skeleton is Elvis!
His frightening femur's crumbling,
His tibia is tumbling,
And last his ferocious fibula,
WAIT! Now he's started mumbling
"Do not come to the boneyard in the middle of the night,
If you are not careful, you could get a fright!

Nollag
An Nollaig
Dhúisigh mé ar a seacht a chlog maidin na Nollaig. D’oscail mé doras an seomra sui. Chonaic mé bronntanas ar an
talamh. Lig mé béic asam mar bhí an seomra lán le bronntanais. D’oscail mé an brontanas mór ar dtús. Bhí iPad istigh sa bhosca.
Tar éis tamaill chonaic mé an sneachta ag
titim amach an fhuinneog. D’fhág mé an bronntanas agus rith mé amach an doras agus thosaigh mé ag pleícíocht sa sneachta. Bhí Hannah in éineacht liom. Rinneamar fear sneachta. Chuir mé caréid ar a adhaigh, háta ar a cheann agus scarfa freisin. Bhí sé go halainn. Dúirt Mamaí go raibh an
dhinnear réidh. Rith mé isteach sa theach agus d’ith mé cairéid, prataí, turcaí agus bachloga Bruiséile le mo chlann. Tar éis an príomhcúrsa d’ith me an mhilseog. Nuair a chríochnaigh mé an dinnéar bhí mo bolg lán.

Nollag? Phioc siad cúpla píosa cuillean agus chroch Daidí an cuillean ar na phictuirí sa halla. Ansin, chuaigh na páistí amach sa gháirdín agus thosaigh siad ag déanamh fear sneachta. Frosty ag ainm dó. Tar éis tamaill, chuaigh siad ar ais isteach sa theach mar bhi sé an-fuar . Shuigh siad os
comhair na tine agus thosaigh siad ag caint. Ní fhaca siad bronntanas faoin gcrann ó a sheanathair agus a sheanmháthair. Nuair a bhí siad te arís, chuidigh siad Mamaí ag déanamh maróg Nollag agus ansin, tháinig Daidí isteach le turcaí agus liamhás. Chuaigh an chlann go léir ina chodladh an oíche sin. Dhúisigh na paistí go luath ar maidin agus rith siad go tapa síos an staighre go dtí an seomra suí. Tháinig Daidí na Nollag aréir. Thosaigh siad ag súgradh le bronntanais go léir agus rinne Mamaí agus Daidí dinnéar na Nollag. Bhí lá iontach acu.

Allianz Sciath na Scol Final
How we got in the Final
Hello and this is Kayleigh Mulcahy reporting how “ how the girls Sciath
Na Scol football team got into the county final”. We lost against Carrigaline but luckily there
was a playoff against Innishannon. It
was very nervewrecking because we thought we were going to be out of the
competition. If Eva Noonan didn’t get
the final point before full time we could have been out of the competition.

Sciath Na Scol Final
Hello and this is Kayleigh Mulcahy reporting the Sciath Na Scol FINAL on
the 19th November. The final was played in Pairc Uí Rínn. There were 500 supporters in Pairc Uí rínn.
Miss Creedon was screaming her head off!!!! It was a very exciting event. My uncle said I was jumping up and down like
a jack in the box. When my name was announced I was waving like mad.

How we lost the final
We played our hearts out on the 19th November. We were
literally whipped out the gate by Glounthane. They were the strongest team on
the day. After the full-time whistle blew we were all bawling crying out on the
pitch. Emily Cunningham , the captain was devastated. I gave her a big hug.
Then I went over to Miss Creedon and she
gave me a big hug. Afterwards Glounthane gave us a guard of honour. Then we
went up to receive our medals.

School Band - 5th and 6th class
The school band returned to after-school rehearsals this month following the big debut performance at the X-mas factor before the holidays. There was an enthusiastic crowd as the band performed 'Rolling in the Deep' and 'Merry Christmas Everyone' for the whole school and parents.
The school band was formed with Ms O' Shea in October 2012, and has since grown, including many instruments and singers. There are talented musicians and singers playing great music in this band. We now look forward to helping the Junior Infants for their Cor Fheile concert. The whole band is looking forward to it!
