The Storm

I feared that my boat would break apart in the storm. The howling wind tore at the sail roaring like a pack of hungry wolves. The rain battered the hull as the steel grey sea leapt up trying to drag the hopeless boat down. Lightning illuminated the sky with blinding light; the waves pounded the side of the boat as I swayed and slipped through the green slick seaweed. My heart hammered against my chest, slowly creeping up my throat till I felt like I was about to get sick. I had to do something but I was hopeless in the violent crashing and smashing of the colossal waves. A titanic wave rose ahead and I braced myself, tears streaming down my face the salt stinging my eyes. The wave toppled and crashed on top of the boat, smashing the fragile structure to bits. The sea swallowed me whole, devouring any oxygen I had left. I thrashed in the churning ocean fighting for survival. I was dragged further underwater, I was soon about to lose this battle. A sharp pain erupted in my side, my lungs crumpled but my heart was still there. I pulled myself to the surface gasping as my lungs caught the sweet taste of oxygen. I clambered onto a broken piece of wood I would survive. Then everything went black. The storm was over later that day the sea was calm and the sky was an azure blue. The storm was over and so was my life.

What Happened in the Graveyard

This is a short story by Georgia Moore from Ms. Horgan's 6th class. Georgia is the Winner of the Halloween Short Story Competition that was held during Book Week.

She shivered as she clambered out of her car. Tendrils of fog wrapped themselves around her, binding her in their freezing grasp. Her eyes wandered nervously over the scene. She was in a graveyard. Crumbling tombs and headstones surrounded her. The eerie emptiness chilled her to the bone. But she knew, nervous as she was, that she couldn’t stand forever. She took a very hesitant step forward.
The drop in temperature was immediate. Her ears popped, goosebumps rippled up and down her arms. An icy wind roared through her brain. The world became a wide grey void filled with deep, rasping breaths, belonging to things that had once been human but weren’t any more. She gasped for breath, but the air she was breathing seemed to be freezing her lungs. She wheezed desperately, fighting for life.
And then, everything vanished. She was herself again. Her eyelids dragged themselves open. And there was a white figure treading silently across the frozen grass towards her. Suddenly, she found herself gazing into a pair of wide, caramel-coloured eyes. He stared at her. “Are-“ he paused. “Are you… going there too?” She nodded slowly. “Will we find it… together?” he asked hesitantly. She nodded again, but didn’t move. “Well… I think it’s this way” Her feet seemed to be made of ice. But she managed to put one in front of the other. Until they came to the forest.
She stopped abruptly. She hadn’t noticed him fall back in step. She turned around and caught a glimpse of his face, dreadfully altered. The skin had fallen away like plaster, the teeth were brown and rotting away, and the one remaining eye was bloodshot, with an iris as scarlet as blood. She didn’t even have time to scream as a black cloud descended on her. And then… nothing.

My Confirmation Retreat

On Wednesday we went to our Confirmation retreat to learn more about God .
First thing we saw there was the building of Scala, We meet Kevin and Natalia
two of them were from different countries, Kevin was from Germany
and Natalia was from England but her parents from Malta and I forgot about
Fr. John he was old man but he was very nice and funny.

We were playing three different games, I didn't know their names but
they were funny.

Then we had our lunch. We drank tea. It was really hot so I put in some milk and
it was ok. When we came back from lunch we went back to the room and we did
meditation for like 30 minutes. Kevin played music and Natalia was reading to us.

After the meditation we went to another room and Natalia give different jobs to
us because we were doing our own mass. At 1.30pm we were going back to
school.

My day was really exciting.

Archaeology in my Local Area

Well done to Mr. Walsh's sixth class who just finished their Discover Cork Heritage Project. The class put in a huge effort and had loads of fun learning about the archaeology sites and heritage in our local area. We visited sites, made 3-D models and created a big display in school. Parents came to see all our work and we also had a fun day peer teaching with Mrs Walsh's first class.
Check out our feature film showing a raid on a ringfort as well as our music video and photostory.
